Probiotics
ClearanswerstocommonquestionsaboutAMILIproducts,use,andsafety.
Good health starts with gut health. Gut health can go wrong with drugs like antibiotics, diet, stress, traveling - and lead to downstream health effects. Probiotics are a simple way to optimise your gut health despite everyday changes.
Most probiotics can look similar on the shelf. The real differences are usually (1) how well the strains are protected during storage, and (2) how thoughtfully the formulation is designed.
STORAGE: Probiotics are living, delicate ingredients. Heat, light, moisture and oxygen can reduce potency over time. Many probiotic strains are sensitive to oxygen, because they’re adapted to conditions that are similar to the gut, which is relatively low in oxygen. AMILI uses amber glass bottles and nitrogen-flushed bottling to reduce light and oxygen exposure, helping protect the strains until you consume them.
FORMULATION: This is where AMILI is different. Most probiotic brands are built mainly from Western studies or Western-skewed datasets, because that’s what’s widely available. AMILI is one of the few companies with a proprietary multi-ethnic Asian gut microbiome database, which allows us to design formulations starting from Asian gut profiles - rather than adapting Western formulations and hoping they translate. We use this to select strains that are most relevant for Asian consumers, and combine them in deliberate ratios instead of relying on “more strains = better” strain stacking.
Each product contains a defined blend of strains and supporting ingredients listed on the product page/label. More strains doesn’t automatically mean better. A product with many strains can dilute the dose of each strain and isn’t necessarily more effective. In addition, including too many strains can lead to competition - where strains compete for the same nutrients in the gut - which may blunt the intended effect. AMILI uses a deliberate number of strains and tuned ratios to support specific functions, focusing on what’s intentional and useful rather than what looks impressive on a label.
If you've taken the AMILI Gut Health Test, follow the formulation (1-4) recommended in your report. These formulations are targeted belnds designed for different gut profiles, differing in strain combinations and ratios. RESTORE is designed specifically for use during and after antibiotics.
The strains and prebiotic components in AMILI’s probiotics have been carefully selected to ensure relevance to the lifestyles and diets in Asia. These gut microbiome profiles have been shown to differ from those commonly observed in the West. AMILI’s formulations are informed by our proprietary multi-ethnic Asian gut microbiome database – one of the largest of its kind – and supported by findings from published scientific literature.
Yes - you can buy AMILI’s probiotics without taking a Gut Health Test.
If you want the most targeted approach, the Gut Health Test helps you understand your gut profile so you’re not guessing. It can guide you to the most suitable formulation for your needs and gives you a clear baseline to track changes over time. We also recommend re-testing after 6 months to see how your gut has responded to the probiotics.
AMILI’s probiotics are manufactured with a trusted GMP-certified partner in Thailand. Our manufacturing partner has over 30 years of experience in fermentation and probiotic production. Keeping production in Southeast Asia also helps us stay closer to ingredients and supply chains relevant to Asian diets, while maintaining strict quality standards to protect potency and consistency.
RESTORE is designed to be taken during antibiotics and continued after you finish - ideally completing a one‑month course as directed on the label. For best practice, take it at a different time from your antibiotic dose (for example, a few hours apart), unless your doctor advises otherwise.
GutHealthTest

Yes - because your gut microbiome is shaped strongly by environment, not ethnicity alone.Factors like diet, lifestyle, medications, and where you live can have a bigger impact than genetics. Since AMILI’s reference data includes people living in multi-ethnic Asia, your results are still relevant.
Because your results are benchmarked to an Asia-based reference dataset and translated into clear actions. We organise findings by key functions (immunity & metabolism, digestion, gut–brain) and include next steps - such as a personalised probiotic and diet recommendations based on your gut profile.
The test profiles and sequences the bacteria in your gut, then uses AMILI’s Asia-centric reference database and proprietary scoring to turn the results into actionable insights (including a targeted probiotic recommendation). While AMILI's Gut Health Test does provide meaningful insights, it is not a diagnostic test or a replacement for medical care.
Your report includes an overview of your gut microbiome profile, plus insights translated into three core functional areas related to your gut: Immunity & Metabolism, Digestion, and Brain.
You’ll also receive practical, actionable recommendations (diet and lifestyle) and a personalised probiotic recommendation based on your gut profile.
We benchmark your profile against an Asia‑centric reference database and apply proprietary scoring and machine‑learning methods built by our clinical and data science teams to select the best fit across Formulation 1–4.
Our Gut Health Test uses 16S rRNA gene sequencing, a validated method for profiling gut bacteria. AMILI stands out by interpreting results against an Asia-centric reference, making insights more relevant for Asian populations. All samples undergo standardised lab and data quality checks, and we collaborate with partners like A*STAR and National University Hospital to ensure our methods stay rigorous and up to date.
Your results are only meaningful when compared to the right reference group. Gut microbiome profiles can vary by region, diet, and environment, so an Asia-based reference helps make benchmarks more relevant for people living in Asia. This leads to more relevant insights for you.
The gut microbiome can influence many aspects of health even before you feel symptoms, including digestion, immune function, metabolism and mood. The test can give you a useful baseline of your gut profile, highlight areas that may need support, and help you make more informed diet and lifestyle choices early - rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.
Broadly, yes. The Gut Health Test is suitable from age 5 onwards, when the gut microbiome is generally more stable and results are more interpretable. For children under 5, the gut is still rapidly developing, so we typically don’t recommend testing unless advised by a healthcare professional.

MicrobiomeRestorationTherapy
Thesequestionsareprovidedatahighlevel.MRTdecisionsarecase-dependentandshouldbemadewithalicensedhealthcareprofessional.
Microbiome Restoration Therapy (MRT) is a clinician-administered procedure that introduces screened microbiome material to help restore a healthier gut environment. It is provided by licensed healthcare professionals and is not a do-it-yourself product.
MRT can only be provided by a licensed healthcare professional. If you think MRT could be beneficial for you, visit our page to learn more about the available options and our healthcare professional partners who are experienced in delivering AMILI’s MRT.
MRT is currently approved for the treatment of recurrent C. difficile infection. However, growing evidence from clinical trials and real-world patient outcomes suggests that MRT may have potential benefits beyond this indication. Promising results have been observed in a range of conditions, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, immune, and even brain-related conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Alzheimer’s disease.
Please consult with your doctor to see if MRT could be a beneficial procedure for you or your loved ones.
If you’re based outside Singapore, please contact us and we’ll advise on availability and, where possible, connect you with one of our overseas partner clinicians who offer AMILI’s MRT.
MRT can only be provided by a licensed healthcare professional, so the format should be chosen with your doctor - not self-selected. Each MRT format has different benefits and considerations, and what’s appropriate depends on your condition, medical history, and treatment goals.
You can visit our website to learn more about the options and our healthcare professional partners who are experienced with AMILI’s MRT. Your doctor will advise on the safest and most suitable format for your situation.
