Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are neurodevelopmental conditions characterized by social andbehavioural impairments. In addition to neurological symptoms, ASD subjects frequently suffer from gastrointestinal abnormalities, thus implying a role of the gut microbiota in ASD gastrointestinal pathophysiology.
